I am watching my favorite show of many years, Inside the NFL. This Friday night ritual of mine – thanks mostly in part to the creation and lease of my Comcast DVR, helps to relieve the separation pains felt from football the long 5 days between Monday Night Football and the first one o’clock game on Sunday afternoon.
I’ve loved this show for many reasons – and the recent switch from HBO to SHO and reconfiguration of its hosts has me missing Bob Costas and Dan Marino. Never thought I’d say that! In addition to my enjoyment of the personalities and chemistry of the hosts, there’s the “voice guy” from NFL Films, and the excellent team of editors who produce such an amazing recap of the week’s games. So needless to say, it’s taking some getting used to with the new guys. I’ve always liked James Brown and Chris Collinsworth but I feel Phil Simms is a bit too wordy and tends to over-talk the other hosts.
The show has inspired me to write, and I paused it with a replay of Romo in action, about to make the handoff to Marion the Barberian in the Week 3 game against the Green Bay. I’m very sorry about what I am going to say next. I am not feeling Tony Romo yet. For me, this is huge. I’ve been a Cowboys fan for most of my life – since I was old enough to understand the game, 5 – and I just ain’t lovin him yet. Does this make me less of a Cowboys fan? Not to me. I’ll learn to love him soon enough – as soon as he begins to show me some professionalism and maturity on the field. He’s an amazing QB, I am aware of this, but I think the cockiness and the Hollywood attitude he carries are currently taking away from his game. He’s still making rookie mistakes and he’s been on the sidelines for 6 years now. It’s time to tighten up and deliver this team to the Superbowl!
Ok, off my NFL high horse. I just enjoy football so much, and want to express it to the world!
