This year has an extra element of excitement in the already exciting NFL season. We signed up for a league on NFL.com, thanks to my boss! Throughout the season, you’ll see articles detailing our experiences with Fantasy Football for the first time!
Week 1
Our draft for the Fantasy Football league this year was automatic; and was free on NFL.com/fantasy. We don’t currently play for money [obviously] since this is our first season really making a serious go of it. I decided that I would take the advice of another novice to the FF and put wide receivers as my first round draft choice. Not that this was a terrible idea, but there really is an art to the stacking of your draft order to get what you really wanted. Some of our league members really had it down, while I’m still scratching my head.
I got Brett Favre as my QB, which to me sounds good but this week we’re playing a Brady-less NE. However, New England is still the same supporting cast that surrounded Brady so if they can get a rhythm going, watch out.
Here’s where the reality of playing Fantasy Football starts to hit me. I’ve got to root for Brett Favre to get lots of yardage while also hoping a healthy Randy Moss as my starting wide receiver can make a connection with the back QB for New England, Matt Cassel. This expansion of my love for the sport even deeper into the field of players and competing teams is very inviting.
I’ll sit Eli Manning who is my backup for this week even though it goes against my gut feeling that Brett might throw a few INT against the great DB (corners) on NE. My advice on that one was from a seasoned FF player, who won his league and made $1,100 last year. Again, I’m not in it for the money, merely the fun of it but it will be interesting to see how my gut feelings fair against the advice of the seasoned FF players who are my friends.
